Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohio statute gives no single deadline for the indictment itself, so a lawyer is the one to ask about it. It does set deadlines for the preliminary hearing and for trial. The preliminary hearing, an early court hearing, is due within 10 days for someone held in jail and 15 days otherwise, unless the person gives it up in writing or an indictment comes first. We can talk through how bail bonds work any time.

A judge sets felony bail from factors such as weapon use, the strength of the evidence, community ties, and the person's record. The misdemeanor bail schedule does not cover felonies. Once the amount is set, we can talk about writing a bond and payment plans for qualified customers.

Yes, in limited cases. The Ohio Constitution allows it in a death penalty case where the proof is strong, and in other felonies where the proof is strong and the person poses a substantial risk of serious physical harm to others or the community. Otherwise a judge sets bail after weighing things like the evidence, community ties, and the person's record. A bond can only be written once an amount is set, and that holds for a warrant bond too.

The fee is 10% of the bond amount, along with court fees. Felony bond fees of 10% are not returned. The bond amount comes from the judge, so the fee follows from that number. Collateral may be asked for on some bonds, and we cannot approve every bond. Qualified customers can ask about bail bond payment plans. Ask for a felony bond quote
